Most concrete pools in the U.S. still ship with plaster or gunite interiors—materials that look great on day one but begin deteriorating almost immediately. Rough textures scratch skin. Porous surfaces trap algae. Cracks form as the ground shifts. And every 5–7 years, owners face a costly replastering job that can run $10,000–$25,000. We designed plaster out of the equation from the start. Every Ecopool concrete pool comes standard with a Zycore™ interior—because we don't believe a premium pool should ship with a finish that's already on a countdown to failure.
Traditional plaster is rigid. When the earth beneath a concrete shell shifts—from freeze-thaw cycles, soil settlement, or seasonal expansion—plaster cracks. Those cracks become stains, then leaks, then a full replaster.
Zycore™ is engineered to flex with the concrete structure. Its reinforced polyester matrix absorbs movement without fracturing, maintaining a flawless surface year after year. Because it's part of the pool from day one, every Ecopool concrete pool arrives with a finish that never needs replastering, patching, or acid washing.
Concrete pools offer unmatched design freedom—custom shapes, depths, and configurations that no other pool type can match. But traditionally, that freedom has come with a trade-off: high-maintenance interior finishes. Ecopool eliminated that trade-off. The Zycore™ membrane bonds directly to the concrete shell during manufacturing, creating a watertight, non-porous barrier that protects the structure while delivering a finish that outperforms plaster in every measurable way.
The result is a concrete pool with full architectural ambition and none of the maintenance burden that has defined the category for decades.
The differences between a plastered concrete pool and an Ecopool with Zycore™ aren't subtle. They affect how the pool looks, how it feels, how often it requires maintenance, and how long the finish lasts.
Zycore™ is precision-welded to form a continuous, seamless membrane that lines the entire interior of every Ecopool concrete pool. Unlike plaster, which is hand-troweled on-site and varies in thickness and texture, Zycore™ delivers factory-consistent quality across every square inch.
The membrane is mechanically fastened to the concrete shell and heat-welded at every seam, creating a fully watertight envelope. No water penetrates behind the finish—eliminating the delamination, spalling, and structural damage that plaster allows over time.
A single plaster application costs $8,000–$15,000. But traditional concrete pool owners don't plaster once—they replaster every 5–7 years for the life of the pool. Over 20 years, that's 3–4 full resurfaces, plus annual acid washes, chemical adjustments for porous surfaces, and spot repairs for cracks and stains.
With an Ecopool, none of that exists. The Zycore™ interior is included from the factory. Its non-porous surface reduces chemical consumption, lowers cleaning frequency, and removes the need for acid washing entirely. The long-term economics aren't even close.
Ecopool's Zycore™ interior comes standard on every concrete pool we build. German-engineered durability, a flawless finish, and zero replastering—because a premium pool shouldn't come with a finish that expires.
Ecopool's concrete pools aren't traditional concrete pools with a membrane added on. They're engineered from the ground up with Zycore™ as the interior finish. The concrete shell, the fastening system, and the membrane are designed as an integrated system—not separate components from different vendors assembled on-site.
Zycore™ is the German-engineered, commercial-grade membrane standard on every Ecopool. Learn more about the material science, 3D design technology, and full color options on the main Zycore™ page.
