If you've ever sat on the top step of a pool and thought "I wish this was wider," that's a baja ledge. It's a broad, shallow shelf — typically 6 to 12 inches deep — built into the pool where you can set lounge chairs, let toddlers wade, or just sit in the water with a drink. Some people call it a tanning ledge or sun shelf. We just call it the part of the pool everyone fights over.
With Ecopool, the baja ledge isn't something we add on after the fact. It's built into the pool structure at the factory — whether you're going with an Architectural / S-Series Modular Steel Pool, a shipping container pool, or an inground, onground, or partially inground installation. Same precision as the rest of the pool. No field guesswork.
Be honest — how much of your pool time is spent swimming laps? Most of it is lounging. A baja ledge gives everyone a spot: lounge chairs for adults, a splash zone for the kids, and a gradual entry that makes getting in the pool easy for anyone. Ecopool baja ledges can span the full width of your pool or cover a custom section, depending on the layout.

With a gunite pool, the baja shelf gets shaped by hand on-site. Some spots end up deeper than others, and you don't find out until the water's in. Ecopool's tanning ledge is built in our factory — depth, width, and transition slope are all set before the pool ever leaves the building.
Ask anyone who has a baja ledge what their favorite part of the pool is. It's the ledge. Ask anyone who doesn't have one what they'd add. Also the ledge.
When you're building an S-Series Modular Steel Pool, the baja ledge isn't a separate add-on. It's part of the pool's architecture — same clean lines, same structural envelope, same level of engineering as the rest of the pool.
Ecopool baja ledges keep the crisp, straight-edge geometry of modular steel pool architecture. No freeform curves. Clean lines, Texas coping, and the same design language as the rest of the pool.
The insulated steel panel construction carries through the entire ledge area. Your pool's YETI-level heat retention doesn't take a hit just because you added a shallow section.
Ledge depth, edge radius, transition slope — all of it is set in our Central Texas factory before shipping. Nothing gets adjusted on-site because nothing needs to be.
The baja ledge gets the same Zycore™ 3D Membrane finish as the rest of your pool. It's a German-engineered, welded polymer surface — one continuous interior with no grout lines, no plaster joints, and no visible seam where the shelf meets the main pool body.
Ecopool's container pools — built from upcycled CORTEN steel — hold the baja ledge geometry just as well as our modular steel pools. The rigid structure keeps everything flat and level, and because it's factory-built, the tanning ledge arrives ready to use the day it's set.
Traditional gunite baja shelves are hand-shaped on-site and plastered over. That means uneven depths, rough textures, and resurfacing costs every 5–10 years. Ecopool takes a different approach.
When a baja ledge is hand-shaped, depth varies across the shelf. One side might be 8 inches, the other side 11. Ecopool's factory-built ledge holds the same depth edge to edge, so your lounge chairs actually sit level.
Plaster-finished tanning ledges crack, stain, and get rough within 5–10 years. The shallow zone takes the most sun and the most foot traffic, so it wears first. Zycore™ membrane doesn't have that problem.
A gunite baja shelf adds weeks to your build — shaping, curing, plastering, more curing. An Ecopool baja ledge shows up done. Fill it with water and you're using it days after delivery, not months.
Every Ecopool baja ledge is built in Central Texas with the same factory quality control we apply to the rest of the pool. A shallow shelf that needs to hold a consistent 6–12" of water across its full span doesn't leave much room for error. That's the whole point of factory building it.
We don't eyeball it in your backyard. We get it right before it ships.
